A dental prosthesis is a medical device that allows for the restoration of a broken tooth or one that has been severely damaged by decay. It can also replace one or more missing teeth. The function of a dental prosthesis is to restore the chewing function which is the basis of good general health, but also to restore esthetics and phonation.
Which dental prostheses to choose?
Fixed prostheses : Fixed prostheses are fixed in the mouth on existing teeth (bridges/crowns) or on implants. These are the treatments that are most similar in comfort to natural teeth.
Removable prostheses : These are not fixed in the mouth and must be removed for cleaning. They are economical alternatives to fixed prostheses.
Hybrid prosthesis : These are distinguished from removable prosthesis by their strong anchorage on remaining teeth or on implants. This constitutes the intermediate version in terms of comfort which sometimes approaches the fixed prosthesis.
